ARM Index and Margin

In plain English

The published index plus the lender’s fixed margin determines an adjustable mortgage’s fully indexed interest rate.

An ARM’s index and margin determine the fully indexed rate: the published index plus the lender’s margin, subject to caps and floors. The index can move while the margin is usually fixed in the contract. A rate-adjustment guide explains the moving parts.
